Time for a chapter from 3's perspective.
Jeeeee booooj! Looks like 3 is WAY smarter than I had assumed. I love it! Great work Neorice!
Nice to see 3 get snarky at Mr. Smile
Is 3 saying gray is not a color ? It is a color. It's one of our possible perceptions of many light spectra.
Colors only exist in our brain and don't refer to any specific spectrum, so if we can distinguish it, it's a color.
For example yellow can be seen from a pure white yellow source or red+green. Or white from a full spectrum or weak red+green+blue.
If you ask me, it is close enough. I mean, sure, it is a bit plain, but it's all reflected light...
How did they manage to get him there? Did the gas affect him too?
I'm not sure I understand Thing One. Anyone get it who's up to explain?
three : grey isn't a color
Yay! Three, you're back!
@Neorice - How is 3 "communicating" or attempting to with Mr. Smile?
"Grey is not a colour"
4 wards. Every ward has 3 contestants. That sums a total of 12 contestants, the exact number of people shown at (http://neorice.com/hoh_1013)
Also, remember that Three is a cleaner too.
3! 3! 3!
Guesses at 3's speech bubbles:
1. "Where's Tobi?"
2. "I wonder if I can give the money to Tobi?"
3. "Grey isn't a color."
Also, kinda funny to answer the security question to post comments.
Ha, grey is not a color.
Glad to see 3 is participating. But i don't think the others will be so glad
What comes next? Tobi, Paladin, ?
So 3 is a sassy guy. I don't know how I feel about the rebus bubbles (rebubbles) -- on the one hand it makes sense to give the reader a way to know what he's thinking since he's getting to be the focus character; on the other hand he loses a bit of his mystique by not talking in static anymore.
Here is a hint fer ye bois: Both "mr Smiley" and "3" have "black" as background speech bubble.
Yep, I am not color...
Probably the static images we saw when we initially met 3.
Basically, you can think of it like... imagine everyone has a 'token'. If you survive to the end, and still have your 'token', then you get 1 million credits. On the other hand, you can give it to someone else. If you do, then /they/ get the 1 million credits... as long as you stay alive. Basically, it's a way to hire someone to be your bodyguard.
May I ask how much longer these gameshows go on? I'm kinda over them :(. Feels like its dragging on at this point and losing my interest.
So when we see things from 3's perspective, he talks in rebus bubbles, eh?
I wonder if his previous screen-static bubbles were secretly magic eye pictures that contained what he was actually saying.
I have never in my life gotten a magic eye picture to work, but has anybody else tried that?
Three's bubbles are understandable now because the chapter is from his perspective.
It's possible that Mr. Smile can understand him, but that's not the reason why the pictographs are shown (rather than static).
Are you sure? Have you checked? Don't check in front of the whole comments section, but, well... If you take the circle to the right, and then average everything out until it is homo-geneous, then you get something similar to the circle on the left. You don't have to talk about it if you don't want, I know people get weird about hermaphrodites, but I think you might actually have lots of colours. All of them maybe!
Well, I just... I hope you go to a specialist to get your colours tested. It could go badly for you if you secretly had colours for your whole life and didn't know...
@Guest Comments like this make me wish there was a like button.
Maybe in panel 3rd to last Three is thinking "How much would it cost to buy Tobi's loyalty?". Or alternatively, "How much Tobi would pay me to be still loyal to her?".
Maybe he is a callous businessman or mercenary, we don't know how these silent assassin types think.
Yus! 3's been snarky all along!
@Steven Bro, all arcs have a curve, and right now its curving down before it ramps up again. Trust Neorice.
As a literary device, this works well. There's no reason to not show us what Three is saying if not showing us adds nothing to the story (like how Three interacts with Tobi). When he's on his own, or when the intended dialog might reveal more about a character before it's time, static bubbles are definitely more appropriate. They're also completely appropriate when we're reading the story from Tobi's perspective.
Everyone in the comments are going to analyze Three's bubbles and make theories about what he meant to said.
How can Three see without eyes? He's a badass, that's how.
His first thought is asking where Tobi is? Aw...
Also, why would Three need protecting?
@Damn it Steve
The first episode of her starting this game show. The one where they gave her the instructions was over 7 months ago and over 70 Tobi pages.
I think that 3's second "speech" bubble is him thinking "maybe i can pay someone to tell me where tobi is"
Does this chapter go too slow or something? IMO, this chapter has been /packed/ with character and world building, much more so than the rest of the comic.
@Leo I'm just kinda over the game show stuff. Thats all. It's seeming really long at this point
Oh sheesh, I got out of the habit of checking daily and I missed the return of Three. What a day for it to come out on. And I like this side of Three, it buts him (it?) in a slightly carrying, but also sarcastic light.
I think three was asking if he can give money to Tobi, but it would be funny if he was asking if he could buy Tobi (as an ally)
@neorice: noticed this just now but I think the last panel should be "there" instead of "three".
