The doublemass

Has no time for sass.

23740: Battle Brother Thurigen - Friday, October 23 2020 - 3:12 AM

Well this man is rather testy.

It must be the magic steroids he's pumping daily.

I think it's obvious he'll be stopped by his compatriots because of the deal made with Goldman's group, but will they stop him in time before he makes the first strike, or Burk does?

I love the "power pomp" name. :D
Dunno if it is typical in this universe, but this "gang-feeling" seem to be quite strong just about everywhere.

Time for *Diplomacy*!

23743: Taran Alvein - Friday, October 23 2020 - 6:26 AM

Something tells me this guy doesn't care about no stinkin' diplomatic immunity. He's definitely less "Hero" and more "'Roid-Raging Goon".

23744: TheMegax - Friday, October 23 2020 - 6:30 AM

Threatening a diplomat! Either he doesn't know or he's just THAT angry.

23745: Tor - Friday, October 23 2020 - 7:42 AM

I suspect this will be a setup for Nightshade or the Skystrike hero to strike that fool down, as he is now threatening a civilian.

I don't want to understate your efficiency as a diplomat, Pablo, but I think the most diplomatic thing you can do in this particular situation is concede to this good man's demands and NOT get yourself killed... I mean, I don't think Burk would let this Doublemass fella so much as touch a hair upon your head, but still...

> Highest raw strength with spirit discounted out of entire `Power Pomp Group`

I wonder how much his raw muscular strength matters? I mean, most stronger characters (including Burk) have most of their strength coming from something other than their muscles; he'd have to be pretty weak for his muscles to matter.

In case anybody wants a refresher on Hero ranks/title meanings, you can see this page: http://www.neorice.com/hoh_1600

Piper seems to be frozen. She hasn't moved for 2 pages.

23751: Saiko - Saturday, October 24 2020 - 12:14 PM

Piper is revaluating her preferred physique type right now, no time for words.

23752: SilentWrangler - Saturday, October 24 2020 - 12:58 PM

@Storm
Judging by the name "Doublemass", his magic power us probably doubling muscle mass, so having more to start with will definitely improve efficiency.

23753: Venator Animarum - Saturday, October 24 2020 - 2:08 PM

@potatopeelerkind
Frozen by the sight of all the muscles no doubt

23755: A Loquacious Theorizer - Saturday, October 24 2020 - 9:41 PM

yeah, the yellow outline makes the aura a bit more visible.
I could see it before, but this makes it obvious.

23756: Tor - Sunday, October 25 2020 - 3:32 AM

I think its a serious mistake to discount raw strenght. Just for a start the increased mass and bulk gives him a massive advantage in a fight.

And thats without the consideration that we dont know how spirit work at increasing physical ability. Is it addictive? is it multiplicative of existing physical power?

I still think another Hero will take him down though. As right now he is being a disgrace to the name.

23757: Anthony - Sunday, October 25 2020 - 10:37 AM

Given how Burk's abilities work, this guy is probably more of a challenge than Goldman (whose primary shtick, defense against magic, is completely useless against Burk), though that doesn't mean actually hard.

23758: Storm - Sunday, October 25 2020 - 4:02 PM

@Tor:

It's funny that you should mention additive-vs.-multiplicative power! I actually wrote a super-long comment on it, but didn't post it because I was afraid it was being a tad too geeky.

The short version's that power seems additive, not multiplicative. We have two pretty strong pieces of evidence for it.

The weaker (but still very strong) evidence is that there doesn't seem to be a strong correlation between sex and total strength. In the real world, men have significantly more muscle than women on average; the comic not only mirrors this, but seems to amplify it (as we primarily see men with bulky builds, not women). Despite this, the comic doesn't reflect a theme of female characters being weaker. We might hypothesize that there's some anti-correlative factor going on, e.g. maybe females have a counteracting bias toward stronger multiplicative factors, but that'd seem a bit contrived. More likely that power's just additive.

But the smoking gun is Burk. Burk's got a bulkier upper body, but his legs are pretty surprisingly skinny; I'm not sure if his legs have even average muscle mass. Early in the comic, it was unclear if this was real or just part of the artistic styling; however, Ariara cleared that up for us in (http://www.neorice.com/hoh_burk_868):

> Your kicks hit way harder than those little legs should!

Ariara was an excellent mouthpiece for this observation because she's an experienced, world-class power who preaches getting power from multiple sources rather than focusing on one.
