Just stay quiet.

Whaaaaat are you up to Guy Juliet?

Wow, he's got spy gear in that room. Impressive. Now why is he trying to send this little girl crazy?

@Darius, re gold theory from a couple of days ago . . .

The layer of gold can't be true. Blondie and crystal golem guy lamented the fact that the Mage Baron was turned to gold because it meant they couldn't get his amulet. If it was just a layer they could've waited for him to suffocate, then cracked him open to get the amulet.

I'm guessing it's actually solid gold, except for spirit users who must be able to resist it somehow. Additionally, it must be an innate resistance, given Ariara didn't see it coming.

I guess Guy can be a James Bond level jerk when he puts his mind to it.

13348: Darius Drake - Monday, July 17 2017 - 3:33 AM

@ Conchord: That's explained by the Gold Guy stating that he can't control what he turns to gold while he's transformed. In other words, like the seemingly Immortal Golem Guy, Gold Guy can transform, though his powers are harder for him to control while he is.

In other words, Goldy's Tranformed state gives a more complete transmutation into Gold, while his incomplete state gives a coating.

That's how my theory works, anyway. I still don't understand why Magic Users, specifically those skilled at Spirit Magic, are more resilient to the transformation into magic-immune gold in your logic.

If you could, please explain that to me. A reasoning for that, apart from my own, hasn't actually been presented to me yet.

As for Ariara not seeing it coming, that doesn't mean that she didn't have her Spirit Shield up to a certain degree. It's actually likely that most skilled Spirit Mages have some level of their skills active passively most of the time, particularly during fights.

he may be a jerk but hes a cool jerk

13350: giovanni - Monday, July 17 2017 - 4:00 AM

so it seems like the only thing that interested the detective was the staff

13352: Conchord - Monday, July 17 2017 - 6:36 AM

@Darius, it's just a bit presumptuous to assume that he has a different level of alteration once transformed (if he can transform, the wording is a little woolly there).

My theory would be that those with no innate spirit magic defence get fully transformed into gold. Those with a defence, depending on it's strength, can hold off full transformation and, eventually, reverse it/ break out.

But, we're splitting hairs over theories about how magic works in a web comic. I'm always happy to just go with the reasoning 'because' ^.^

I'll give my own theory... Simply to put, transmutation is always solid. However do you have spirit magic or not, makes difference. Great difference.

To put it in simple terms, with spirit magic your core (soul, heart, whatever) is still here, resistating transmutation. Spell never can complete itself, running out of energy, and transmutation reverses...

Without spirit transmutation is simply completed and requires no more energy...

Well, that's ominous. How did he see that she blew his head off?

13355: -skimmer- - Monday, July 17 2017 - 12:06 PM

so...did he bug the judge?

13356: Darius Drake - Monday, July 17 2017 - 9:29 PM

@ Conchord: Hey, so long as nobody's insulting each other or repeating themselves endlessly (I have often been guilty of the second one), it's all good and we're just having fun.

@ Grey: My only real problem with that theory is that it doesn't seem to account for why she cracked the outer layer of gold.

@ Conchord & Grey: So the way your theories work is that the Spirit Magic prevents the completion of the transformation into gold, allowing it to be "unraveled" and reversed, but it still gives a temporary transformation into gold? Okay then.

I can't actually make anymore comments on my theory that wouldn't be me repeating myself here, so I'm going to end it on saying I disagree at the moment until Neo says otherwise, probably in the comic.

I hope she doesn't think about her mother with that mind.
