Point Scoring totals.

Assuming Veda wasn't lying to Noah, Cherry is like the polar opposite of dead.

For Noah: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZ_8HhDvgbQ

For Garth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX7wtNOkuHo

Here's hopin' Alita makes her last twelve points tomorrow.

Felix is proably safe at this point. Natalie has her power. And Princess is dead.

15651: Sid - Monday, January 8 2018 - 12:17 AM

Makes me wonder if this was just all a ploy to try to get Noah to actually try in these tests. If they were going to actually kill the other students, which seems like a waste of resources, now would be the time.

15652: Alcemon - Monday, January 8 2018 - 12:38 AM

I wonder if Garth is really upset about getting detected or about the fact that this will push Noah to the threshold needed to participate in Veda's mission.

Anyways, interesting things in Noah's future. Looking forward to his first mission.

15653: Daran - Monday, January 8 2018 - 1:08 AM

I am starting to suspect there is something in those boxes that was supposed to monitor the students or get a reading on them.

Will the rest be training with an execution squad?

15654: The Cloud - Monday, January 8 2018 - 1:38 AM

Why is he so pissed? As a teacher he should be happy with students that surpass his expectations.

15655: Saiko - Monday, January 8 2018 - 1:40 AM

And then to the boot camp ;)

15656: Zet - Monday, January 8 2018 - 1:47 AM

Garth isn't someone who praises anyone it seems... and Gazz's eyes are still bleeding?!

15657: Arcadian Knight - Monday, January 8 2018 - 2:29 AM

@The Cloud He's passed cause his teaching methods are being undermined. He's trying to get these kids to do things right and understand what they need to do.

Everyone above him however wants results and care less about the method that gets them those results.

Least that's what it feels like to me.

15658: Rion - Monday, January 8 2018 - 3:06 AM

@Arcadian Knight

I guess we can only really start to grasp the motivations (and morals) of Garth and his superiors once we learn what the consequences of the points are.

If people train until they have enough point to be deployed, Garth might want the kids to have the best chances of survival.

If there are severe consequences to not getting enough points in a specific timeframe, Garth is valuing his students learning to do things HIS way, over their own well-being (and possibly survival).

In the first case Garth is sympathetic, in the second... not so much.

It does seem more and more like the top students are picked off for a special task.

And it could be Vera mainly wanted to motivate Noah to apply himself.

But as Rion said, we need to know more before we can actually judge Garth on how he has done things.

15660: Baprr - Monday, January 8 2018 - 5:28 AM

@Rion
Well, Veda did say they needed to show the Empire some results, so most likely the second one.
Hopefully, the fact that half the class is somewhat ready will buy the rest a few more weeks, if not months.

15661: someone - Monday, January 8 2018 - 6:21 AM

So they weren't supposed to detect Garth, just hide from him? That changes things.

So 7 points for quadrant guessing, 7*5 for bunker naming, and 8 for aura masking. Total 50. No points for seeing the pocketed object.

But Garth wasn't particularly hard to detect (less than Hevel, not to mention Natalie) which means that it was hypothetically possible to get 56 points total, given Veda's Garth bonus.

Note that Noah didn't need that bonus since he already had 18 points. He'd still have been comfortably above the 50 threshold without them.

15662: HanMK - Monday, January 8 2018 - 8:41 AM

@Arcadian Knight

Garth's teaching method seems to largely be "Figure it out on your own". Sure, he taught them how to gather spirit and snuff it out at the start, but both the river and this was more or less "This is your task, get to it!" with no hints given. If he wants them to "do things right" he'd have to teach them the right way.

That said, spirit-users might get better and stronger by figuring out what works for them. But if I hired a guy to teach kids how to use spirit I'd be rather pissed if his job could have been done by a tape recorder.

15663: Neoriceisgood - Monday, January 8 2018 - 8:52 AM

@HanMK

Tape recorder wouldn't have rescued Felix from his near-suicide attack though.

15664: Silver - Monday, January 8 2018 - 9:07 AM

Hm, looks like Veda picked those that went above 50 points? I wonder what she has in store for them. A mission?

Also, I like it when she pisses Garth off but he can't do anything about it :P

15665: Saiko - Monday, January 8 2018 - 10:01 AM

There are similarities in this training to both fictional universes (like in Starship Troopers) and our world (like in Nazi Germany, where 15% of curriculum was physical exercises, and the pupils were meant to suffer, and those too weak were expelled). Since Justopea seem similar to these, I suppose that Garth is actually quite nice, for the role.

15666: Potatopeelerkind - Monday, January 8 2018 - 12:51 PM

Current scores:

Cherry: 70 pts
Noah: 68 pts
Hevel: 61 pts
Gazz: 52 pts
Felix: 45 pts
Alita: 38 pts
Loren: 23 pts
Natalie: 8 pts

Felix did surprisingly well, nearly getting the full 50 (although of course he did get 15 points for using his power instead of spirit). I'm surprised Alita didn't do better than she did.

15667: HanMK - Monday, January 8 2018 - 1:17 PM

@Neoriceisgood
True that.

Guess in the end I see Garth the Teacher much the way I see Felix the Magicman: Potential of greatness, but unfortunately preforms rather poorly for one reason or another.

15668: Atlas - Monday, January 8 2018 - 3:02 PM

@Saiko... Its not the best idea to compare plot points in webcomics to Nazis unless said webcomic contains Nazis, or there are Nazi-esc characters like elves

15669: Whispers of Sorrow - Monday, January 8 2018 - 11:35 PM

@Potatopeelerkind: Yeah, Alita scored at the low end of what I was hoping. I'd guess she didn't stealth well enough and either didn't pinpoint anyone, or did but also made a mistake or two. She should still be okay though. Felix may actually have had a shot at reaching the fifty without Vader's helping hand. I suppose we'll never know, now he's so close to salvation.

@Atlas: I very much agree, lets leave those horrid types out discussion of a fun comic.

15674: Saiko - Tuesday, January 9 2018 - 4:12 AM

I don't think the elves are Nazi-like. They seem to be more oppressed ones, though all we have are unreliable narrators. Maybe it never will be revealed (not being important to the plot), who knows.

15679: Potatopeelerkind - Tuesday, January 9 2018 - 9:37 AM

@Atlas I don't see why. It's relevant to the point Saiko's making, and it's a fair point, too. Nazis aren't Voldemort, they don't appear when you say their name.
