49370: Conjurer - Wednesday, January 7 2026 - 11:38 PM
Finally, our cats are safe.
49371: Rainer - Wednesday, January 7 2026 - 3:56 PM
They should have known, burk is immune to telegraphed attacks!
49372: Sloss - Wednesday, January 7 2026 - 11:58 PM
The more you announce you will win, the more of an idiot you look like when you don't. Especially if your way to announce your victory is convoluted, like a countdown.
49373: someone - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 12:15 AM
Oh, how missed Alf will be!
49374: Mallory - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 12:39 AM
Ah, near confirmation that Burk is indeed an Esper.
Also that's a really cool power to come up with Neo
49375: Ghost - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 1:24 AM
He died as he lived an utter moron. But seriously get proper intel on who and what you're dealing with before letting someone loose with an ion cannon on the landscape.
49376: someone - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 1:34 AM
Pants have been shat by the enemy
49377: Nomen - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 1:46 AM
Alf was standing RIGHT next to the very dangerous targets of a MASSIVE magical attack that had a LONG, PUBLIC countdown...
Are we sure he wasn't just trying to get around the suicide clause in his life insurance policy?
49378: que - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 2:06 AM
it's cool, his smug face is burned into our collective memories.
also i wonder who the new guest will be.
hope it isn't that alf guy
49379: UnknownID - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 2:26 AM
RIP, Alf. You have chosen the wrong friends.
May your sacrifice guide your fellow countryman to choose their friends more wisely in the future!
49380: SFrip - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 2:50 AM
Whispers of Sorrow said the attack would "wipe the smile off the smug Alvarian's face". Here we see how that prediction was right, in excess.
49381: Some guy - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 2:52 AM
Yup. Lots of collateral, actual targets completely unharmed. As expected.
49382: Tom - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 4:46 AM
She didn't get the memo they were facing not one but TWO espers?
That said, holy fuck, she erased all the pixels in part of the comic.
49383: Whispers of Sorrow - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 5:10 AM
His horrified loved ones should look on the bright side: He died happy, doing what he loved.
49384: Whispers of Sorrow - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 5:15 AM
@someone: Well the Blackstars didn't miss him...
49385: Strannik - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 5:27 AM
@SFrip : it did wipe his grin from his face. and his head. and his body. and his body. everything !
49386: Melany - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 5:43 AM
They might not have known about Burk's powers, but feels a bit weird they'd try such an obvious magical attack against Evyle. Or did they bank on her not being strong enough to nullify it?
Part of me is sad about Alf, but... like... what did you expect would happen there, buddy. Like how much more warning does a man need.
49387: Synthetic sentient - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 5:55 AM
Well, that’s devastating. And honnestly still more than a bit uncalled for, considering their biggest crime was getting somebody else’s crimes on them
49388: Zet - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 6:15 AM
The ghoul probably knows what's up and might have even suspected it before, I guess...
49389: Lord_Incaros - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 6:30 AM
I'd wonder why the black stars didn't know about the two (at least one) Esper target. But then I remember that Hero Land Secret Service are actually grateful to the heros and likely with held that information. Might have to dive back into the archives.
49390: Saturine - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 7:29 AM
Ah. So old boy Alf got atomized indeed - yikes! How many failed assassination attempts is this now? Wonder what this will do to “diplomacy” for heroland~
49391: Tor - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 7:51 AM
@Lord_Incaros
That is a good point. I was wondering why the Black Stars would not be aware of such a crucial detail. But yes. The Secret Service did look happy for a chance to clean house. They might have given only sparse details.
That or noone bothered giving the Black Star who erase reality more than vague directions and a picture.
49392: steven - Wednesday, January 7 2026 - 11:52 PM
Alright now we jsut need Burk to lose his pants and the peat down can commence!
49393: RandomFan - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 8:00 AM
@Nomen Reasonably sure, because I highly suspect Alvarian life insurance only counts twins as dead when both twins go. I strongly suspect this legal argument "twins are legally one person" extends further than just an excuse for polygamy - it's probably why there are two diplomats rather than one to begin with.
(Admittedly, maybe Alf was trying to avoid being fired for committing suicide afterwards, but I think he was just an idiot. And maybe fell for heroland propaganda?)
49394: Xyzzy - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 8:18 AM
It seems humans also do not read the quest descriptions.
49395: Tor - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 8:50 AM
Also, have to give it to Neorice.
It was SHOCKINGLY satisfying to see his smug face vanish. And he had barely been around for more than a couple pages.
49396: Potato - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 1:12 AM
Is there a new guest?
49397: Ghost - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 9:37 AM
Really want to know who the black stars main handler as it where is. Because this seems like the exact opposite of just watching them till they start another incident.
Pomp is an option, but I got the impression they wanted to handle it personally with some sort of plausible deniability.
This with them knowing Piper isn't allowed to die is the exact opposite of that.
49398: player_03 - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 9:53 AM
All that and Burk still has his pants on.
49399: Mars - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 2:41 AM
@Melany
They probably expected Evyle to only be strong enough to save herself and one ally? I think they only covered Guy and Pablo in their radius because Evyle and Burk worked together.
49400: Mars - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 2:43 AM
@Lord_Incaros
Oh yeah, there was a lot of politicking and backstabbing and only working towards the same purpose out of obligation at the executive level, right? And at every level, tbh, like any corrupt institution worth its salt.
Oh no. Looks like Alf died. Anyway, onto other things.
Zadkiel and Blue look genuinely surprised. Makes you wonder how much public knowledge there is on espers. They do seem much rarer than magic users. Its quite possible this is the first time they are seeing an esper in action.
49402: Anthony - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 12:41 PM
Just think, if Alf had just taken a single step to his left he would be fine, the burger that was immediately to his left is fine.
49403: Fuz - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 1:03 PM
Bye, Alf.
49404: Fuz - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 1:07 PM
@Tor It would have been IMMENSELY more satisfying seeing his face melt while he realized he fucked up. Instead, he's gone in a split second.
49405: Ulan - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 7:42 AM
Burk doesn't stand for wimpy civilian collateral. It's funny that the table's gone, but the pants aren't. Pablo didn't say that Burk can't punch anyone (right?) so... fight?
49406: Mallory - Thursday, January 8 2026 - 11:27 PM
Ok so I think Espers can only counter stuff they understand so this nova attack was expected to work, but the combination of Burk having a particularly deep knowledge of stuff in combination with his two spirits warning Evyle about stuff right before let them counter what shoulda been an uncounterable attack.
Evyle imitating Burk’s esper style is also interesting to see.
Finally, our cats are safe.
They should have known, burk is immune to telegraphed attacks!
