With a name like Gladly Gladstone, I guess there must be a lot of pressure to be grinning constantly.
Or maybe it's genetic and that's why they're named that.

Their power probably has to do with controlling those who own them a favor?
50824: Whispers of Sorrow - Thursday, April 16 2026 - 3:30 AM
The aristocrat from Burk's story is the splitting image of the Emperor for example.
Random thought: So... if this comic is set in the far future of Earth, with our society being the technomancers... where, on Earth, is the Empire located?
50826: Saturine - Thursday, April 16 2026 - 4:45 AM
Woo boy - Cadwell is raising red flags:
* Part of an elitist family
* Unsettling (not) smile
* Ego inflation (sharing name as “favor”)
This kid whips his tongue out at any point, bring the fire / ash for sure. XD
50827: noname - Thursday, April 16 2026 - 4:49 AM
I wonder if Cadwell knows any Ganders?
50828: err - Thursday, April 16 2026 - 5:53 AM
i'm inclined to think bro is down bad with, JOY.
noah's eyes might be doing blackflips now. :^D

@Liack
You're probably right. The emphasis on 'big' favor makes me think there are levels to his power and may require a target to accept they owe him a favor. Anyone who owes a favor likely is compelled to repay it. Hopefully the other students caught that.

I agree with those who think this one has some kind of power over those who owe him favours.
My first thought was the attribution to vampires of not being able to enter someone's home if not invited to do so.
So, I'll go guess, and say it goes a bit further at it includes other kind of "collaboration" like contracts or pacts, a "deal with the devil" kind of thing, he just goes for favours mostly because they are a rather informal sort of social contract, usually downplayed and granted with ease.
50831: Romanoide - Thursday, April 16 2026 - 7:30 AM
Why the teacher feels less like a magician spy and more like a really good and wise teacher?
50832: Strannik - Thursday, April 16 2026 - 8:48 AM
Gladstone ? so where is Scotia ? ;)
anyway, it's interesting to see that the teacher knows the name and powers of his students, but feigns surprise at them when revealed... basically telling student "it's all an act"
50833: Tom - Thursday, April 16 2026 - 9:20 AM
That smile is rather intense.
Gladwell asking the instructor about a favor gives me hints about what his power is.
Also, he has a distinctive laugh. As we've seen in this comic, distinctive laugh = important character.
50834: Abbie - Thursday, April 16 2026 - 9:34 AM
Waiting for, "My name is Noah and I guess I'm here because I'm good at spirit sight."
50835: oskarloko - Thursday, April 16 2026 - 12:48 PM
Cadwell, as a well learnt business man; is giving no information for free and trying to gain influence.
(such scoundrel)
50836: Cellphone - Thursday, April 16 2026 - 6:08 AM
@Abbie
Cillia at least can vouch for that. Or, well, thinks she can.
@Romanoide
Because he's SUCH a good spy, surely! More seriously Justopea seems to be more willing to forgive ideological impurity in useful and talented people, like Veda (formerly) and Guy, even granting them authority.
50837: Ghost - Thursday, April 16 2026 - 1:13 PM
Thats the kind of smile you would dread to run into in a darkened alley.
50838: EstherTb - Thursday, April 16 2026 - 8:04 AM
Gladly is sporting the Doflamingo glasses and hair. The only thing he's missing is the flamingo jacket.
50839: Some guy - Thursday, April 16 2026 - 7:17 PM
@Whispers of Sorrow
If this is on Earth, it's sufficiently changed from our current configuration that the question is essentially meaningless. I do think we had a map at some point and it looks nothing like Earth.

@ err: I was also thinking it was the obviously magically-controlled cult first shown in page 236. I chose not to re-read early Noah to get all the appearances or references.

Okay, admittedly, the smile is different, but you can't see his eyes due to the big-red glasses, so I still find it reasonable to suspect.

Is that guy related to Doug Dimmadome, Owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome?
