Sounds like a plan.
Ciel's Noah's own personal satnav.
He just walked right next to the microphone! How much trouble would Noah be in if they heard him talk to some unknown ghost named Ciel?
Calling it right now.
They've been able to hear Noah regardless of how close he is to the microphone this whole time.
There was no reason to limit the microphone's range to only half the room. So I guess Noah is gonna get some questions about his mysterious helper, or be declared a complete lunatic by Garth.
Just finding the other pupils should be enough to take him over fifty. Still, it's best to go as high as possible, subsequent lessons could also bring with them the risk of point loss.
So, if Noah succeeds in this test, he'll find himself in a very nice position. He's proven himself to be average at best as infantry, but if he proves to be good at detection and hiding, it should keep him away from the front lines as he'll be more valuable for detection. That is, if they don't figure out there's more to him than spirit ... But I don't think he's convinced Veda he's just a spirit user.
By the way neo, I love how you've managed to make magic both have rules and be unique in this story. Every time a new magic user appears they could potentially have any power yet we'll know a bit about them. You've avoided the usual traps a lot of writers fall for, like trying to explain magic making it predictable and boring or like making it completely random.
Love the magic in this setting. Both mysterious and... uh... rules-y :P
This could well be Ciel's first ever show of emotion. She's "proud" of Noah.
I wonder if it means anything.
If Ciel is discovered, it will result in roughly the same conclusion about him as a shining success at this challenge will: He's useful for espionage.
Trusting this demon will not end well.
"Ciel" sounds somewhat similar to "seal", "seal", "sill", "ceiling", "shill", "shrill", "still", "villa"... If he is feeling foolhardy then there are a number of different ways he could claim to have been talking to himself. I would fully expect such an effort to last roughly half-way through the second word of his explanation...
Boy, that kid sure talks to himself a lot.
Enigman, there is a reason why Garth nicknamed Noah as Windows. They think he is talking to himself, or to a delusion, often in the reflection of windows.
