In some languages the "translation" for both words is the same words or very similar words, for example, in Spanish, both are "Escalera".
In Portuguese, ladder is translated as "escada", while staircase is translated as "escadaria", still, most Brazilians would call an "Escadaria" as "Escada".

Critically enough the recording stopped now that she realized that the ghoul was not released into the maze but rather went on a rampage and, instead of going out on the world decided to "participate" in the death game.

In all fairness, she knew that Smile lost control before she met Maria.

I've got to presume her recording is just more detailed but not shown for the sake of narrative tempo.
I like the way this happens, as we know about the creation of Phantasms, but she ignores that completely.
