FWW, I seem to see three distinct background regions tying up the stories. Obviously I might just be wrong as I do.
The upper third, with the eyes (and maybe the monsters) throw me back to Cheryl's Haven.
The rightmost one looks more like Helds failed scientific expedition.
The leftmost side seems like a different perspective on the pillars found in Tobi's trip to The Council of Vermin. (I feel the intentional difference in perspective is key.)
The squarely spirals have already been mentioned.
I do not see anything related to the big space rock in the front Nero stands on.
It breaks my mind a bit to think about Held's escapade like it could be framed in videogame logic like Tobi's.
