So maybe phantasms are glitches or erroneous code that messes up the player session? Perhaps a virus? A hacker? Intriguing!

So the phantams kill ghouls...
The revenants kills phantams...
The wigth kills revenants...
The vaphyr kills wigths....
and so on...
The apex predator, in 50 iterations, should be a ladybug-dragon-platypus ghost..

I knew it! Ghouls are just DnD players making characters in this universe. That is why most of them are murder hobos and a few are doing things that interact more with the world.

By the Nine Divines! That’s great to hear! To permanently kill a ghoul all you have to do is become a SCP monster that damages reality.

So did Heusten turn into a Fanta…Funta…whatever or did it just take his appearance?

I'd say Phantasms are admins, but no, they're seemingly more like glitches that can permanently brick the account of anyone who encounters them. Got it.

For the greater good, but with no clear path to it...

Greater Good mentioned again! :D

So being transformed by black water gives you moderator privileges to ban unruly players ? That would be neat if you had no to surrender your humanity for that.

So on video game logic are phantasms then bugs that cause the Ghoul's game to crash?

Could this also be part of The Experiment™?
1. Invite magic user.
2. Host kills magic user to create ghoul.
3. Entice ghoul into maze (traps disable players but don't kill, making easy pickings).
4. Create a phantasm (using black water?), put phantasm in maze too.
5. Host meets ghoul and stands around until killed, even after being offered a chance to run.
6. Phantasm eventually finds and kills ghoul?
7. Use host's body for...something?

Might I suggest to not stand between the ghoul and the phantasm in case they have a case of different opinions?
