That's what I like best about Held's story. You get to see a lot about how the current world of HoH was shaped. This assumes Purpermane is a truthful storyteller of course.

So, random theory time:
The Drakenstyn family trades with Vallance the recipe to Black Crystal manufacturing for membership into the Crownlands of Vallance, if they were to win the war, Drakenstyn would become the overlords of Kragmoria.
I presume we get to know more details about Vallance as Theo continues storytelling.

We know from page 3330 and 3348 that at the very least Helds father survived and at some point switched sides.
Pessimist in me says he’s gonna use Helds hope against them…
