Planting seed.

Not at all a questionable power, in any imaginable way.

My god, Piper. How old is she exactly?

this was a really solid comic. alfen radiates cruelty, brutality, pride. feels like a very different side of him that i’m sure will be important when we get to the pigs.

Pablo is concerned.

Burk is impressed.

And Piper is... simping.

@Potatopeelerkind: not old enough to know better! Probably a tweenager, that's the age range where hormones make you take Terrible Decisions.

Maybe he's trustworthy though, just because you've got creepy powers and are look like a vampire in disguise doesn't mean you can't be at least somewhat heroic.
I mean, look at Noah!

Looking at it objectively, Alfen's power would be extremely useful to have. A power that can let you control an enemy to either fight other enemies for you or even stop them fighting together altogether would be great to have on your side.
On the other hand, Alfen's attitude in using it (especially the callous way he just takes control of the other guy without even a pretense of asking permission) is setting off a lot of alarm bells.
On the other, other hand, having that power on your side might prevent it from being aimed at *you*...

Creepy power?
Its just about the opposite of creepy. Its a harmless way of neutralising an opponent.

To be honest, i don't see why Pablo stopped it. Yes, it's creepy, but you're basically saying no to free intel. What does that accomplish?

25796: Storm - Saturday, May 15 2021 - 12:52 PM

That'd be a crazy-powerful power if it's not somehow limited.

Like, would it work on Burk?

Skyhook didn't seem particularly intimidated by Nightshade despite presumably knowing Nightshade's powers.. so unless Skyhook is already controlled by Nightshade (which didn't seem like the case), presumably Skyhook had some basis for not being too concerned.

Looks like that controlled hero drew his sword without being ordered to, so maybe a strong-enough hero who understands the ability could quickly grab the flower off the top of their head to break out of it?

It's creepy, but you can't choose your powers. Unless you're a Free Magic user of course.

Maybe I just like the trope of the evil-looking person with evil powers actually being a stand-up guy.

@Storm - I suspect you’re on the right track. It probably has a “weak-willed” component to its effectiveness - I.e. negligible effect on Burk, Guy, probably total control over Noah without Ciel’s help.

Alfen looks super evil on that 3rd panel, well done Neorice, I was legit taken aback. While he’s seemed basically on our heroes’ side so far, that panel alone makes me think he’s probably an associate of Evyle.

@Potatopeelerkind - iirc, 14 probably going on 15 by now (pretty sure it’s been like a month in universe since they left Mage Baron lands.) Basically at the age where a lot of teen girls start going nuts unless they know better.

Violet, most people first look to Virtue Ethics, especially when rushed.

@comicfan92
One problem with having such a power *on* your side, is that it means having it *at* your side. Given that it requires pickpocketing to use, it seems as though it would be far more effective against nominal allies than it is against open enemies.

25874: DDR - Friday, May 21 2021 - 5:59 AM

Creeper power. ('cause it's a vine, yeah?)

26030: Chase - Thursday, June 3 2021 - 11:13 AM

....how old is Piper? She’s smiling HARD for him.

26041: Chase - Friday, June 4 2021 - 10:22 PM

Simping. I meant simping.
